Black Child Development – Carolinas (BCDC) is a trusted, community-rooted organization committed to improving the quality of life for Black and Brown children and families through education, advocacy, and empowerment.
Originally founded in 2005 as Black Child Development – Charlotte, the organization began as a volunteer-driven effort to mobilize local leaders, parents, and educators around programs and initiatives that uplift children and strengthen families.
In 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization stood firm in its commitment to serve—providing resources, stability, and hope to families across Mecklenburg and surrounding counties. This unwavering dedication drew the attention of the philanthropic community and supported its transition to a more permanent structure with deeper regional impact.
By 2024, the work had outgrown its original boundaries. Recognizing the growing movement across both North and South Carolina, the organization reintroduced itself as Black Child Development – Carolinas—a reflection of our broader reach, unified vision, and enduring commitment to nurturing the Afro-Genius in every child.
